[Sound Experiment #2] – Music for Oil Tanks
A part of this project, as Hiroko told me, was to give insight into the creative process behind our own artwork.
My work usually lives somewhere between visual art and music. I tend to use the different disciplines to inspire each other and in a sense, the visual works as a guideline for the auditorial, and vice versa.
In this experiment, I went out for a walk in the harbour area where my studio is located. It was one of those autumn days in Iceland where everything is still and cold and the air is crisp. The sun was so bright that I thought it would be good to take the camera with me to see if I could capture some of the stark contrast between shadow and light. I walked along the harbour and was ultimately drawn to the large oil tanks that have been there since I remember. They looked so clear and calm, almost if they were sleeping. I tried to take some photos of them and went back to my studio. The pictures then inspired this musical piece, as I was writing for these oil tanks as characters.
I recommend listening to the music while you look at the pictures. –
